Winter · Gulmarg
Gulmarg becomes a ski slope and the gondola runs above the snowline. Srinagar’s lanes and the edges of the Dal turn white. Roads to Sonamarg can close after heavy snowfall, so we plan the days around the weather.
The tulip garden below the Zabarwan hills opens, usually from late March into April, and the almond orchards flower around Srinagar. Days are mild and the willows on the Dal go green.
Sonamarg and Pahalgam are open and green, Gulmarg’s meadows flower, and the highway to Leh is open, so Kashmir and Ladakh fit into one trip with Nubra Valley and Pangong Lake.
The chinar trees in the Mughal gardens turn red and gold, the skies clear, and the saffron fields of Pampore flower in late October. Crisp mornings and quieter roads.

For snow, yes: December to February is when Gulmarg is at its whitest and skiing is on. Some high roads can close after heavy snowfall; we keep a flexible day in winter plans.
